Small Groups/Centers: Summer Fun! Book: Summer Days and Nights by Wong Herbert Yee https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aPwcsNk18c4 Making a Bubble Wand and some bubble solution Place the two ends of a pipe cleaner together and twist the bottoms together, leaving the top in a circle shape. You can add some pony beads if you want. Start placing the beads onto the bottom of the two pipe cleaner ends and push them to the top, you can create pattern! Once you fill the wand with beads fold the end of the pipe cleaner up to hold the beads in place. Bubble Solution: ¼ cup dish soap ½ cup water 1 tablespoon sugar Place all ingredients into a small dish and whisk them together.
Lemonade Art Materials Needed: For this preschool summer activities art project, purchase a large quantity of lemons. Cut lemons in half. Let some of them dry slightly and place some others in the refrigerator. Use the slightly dried lemon halves to print with. Use yellow and pink paint to dip the lemons into and them press onto paper. Use the leftover lemons to make homemade lemonade with. Your child will LOVE squeezing lemons! Ice vs Ice Cream Place 2 bowls out. Place ice cubes in one and ice cream in another. Discuss what they are, how they are made etc. Ask what they think will happen if we leave these bowls out all day? Write down their answers. Check on the bowl throughout the morning or day and write down their comments!
Sunflowers Materials: Large white paper, yellow and brown finger paint, green paper, scissors and glue. Your child can dip their hands into yellow paint and place their hand on the white paper. Continue doing this going around in a circle to make the sunflower. They then use their fingers to make the seeds inside the sunflower by dipping them in brown paint. Have your child practice using scissors by cutting various shapes and sizes of leaves from green paper. Also, draw a solid black line on their green paper to cut on to make the stem. They glue their stem and leaves under their sunflower.

Directions: Have your child paint or color paper plate blue. To make the scales cut a toilet paper roll in half lengthwise. The kids can now use it to dip and stamp into paint. I cut our tube in half one more time to make 4 stampers out of each toilet paper roll but you could leave them longer if you want to. Have child dip the cardboard tube into paint and stamp it on their fish to make the Rainbow Fish’s regular scales. I squirted paint onto another paper plate for the kids to dip the stamper into. We used the orange paint to make mouths by squeezing the cardboard tube to make a tear drop shape. Set the paper plate aside to dry. Have child glue on a googly eye and some sequins for the shiny scales. Draw fins on the craft paper and have the child cut them out. As another option, kids could always draw their own fins for a more kid perfect touch to their craft. Glue the fins onto the paper plate and let them dry. When the craft is ready hang them up to enjoy or let kids play with them.
Directions: Print out the star template on craft paper. Cut the stars out. Have your child glue buttons to their starfish. Practice counting the buttons, group the buttons into their color group or make a AB pattern.
Jiggly Jellyfish Paper plate – cut in half Streamers Crayons, markers, paint or stickers Googly eyes
Directions: Cut the paper plates in half. Have your child decorate the jellyfishes’ body. They can color, use markers, paint or stickers. For the streamers have them cut or rip. Once you have all their tentacles, tape them to the back of one of the plates. When done hang them up or have your child wave their jelly fish around. It looks like the jellyfishes’ tentacles are moving as if it’s swimming in the ocean.

Making your own Ocean Materials: paper, crayons, watercolors (or food coloring and water), paintbrush Create a beautiful ocean scene with crayons and watercolors! What animals can you find in the ocean? Have your child use crayons to draw any ocean animal on a sheet of thick paper. (You can also draw outlines of animals for your child to color in.) Have your child press hard with the crayons so there is a thick layer of wax. Then get out your watercolors. (You can also make your own with a couple of drops of food coloring in a cup of water.) Your child can paint over the whole paper with blues and greens. You can still see the animal through the “ocean” because the waxy crayon repels water
Paper Plate Turtle Craft Directions 1. spread glue over the bottom of the paper plate with a paintbrush. 2. Cover the paper plate with tissue paper squares. When you get to the edge of the plate, fold the tissue paper underneath. 3. If desired, sprinkle glitter over the tissue paper squares while the glue is still wet. 4. Glue head, arms, legs and tail onto turtle 5. Glue 2 wiggly eyes to the turtle’s head, then draw a nose and mouth on the turtle’s face with the black marker.
Circle Time: We start our circle time by talking about what day of the week it is, the date and what month. I usually sound out the M for May. Going to the Beach Provide beach bags that are packed with towels, sunglasses, hats, sunglasses, pails, shovels, empty suntan lotion containers, plastic snack food, swimmies and other items you can think of! Set out your towels on your living room floor and pretend you’re at the beach. Maybe pack a picnic too Sink or Float? Have items available for your child to use to see if they will sink or float in your water bucket. Some suggestions: paper clip, sponge, crayon, plastic straw, etc. Have the children guess if it will sink or float before dropping it in
Directions Pre-cut the shells out of the paper plate Examine the lines in the real shells and talk about their direction. Encourage children to draw the vertical lines with crayon on their shells. Remember to have them go from TOP to BOTTOM in order to encourage good early writing habits. Water color paint over the crayon lines. The paint should resist the lines and show through. Let dry. Decorate with ocean theme stickers if available.
Water color paints Paint brush Glue Scissors Dark blue or black paper
Have child paint their coffee filter and set it out to dry. The darker the paint the better because it does tend to lighten as it dries. Trace the ocean animals onto the black paper and have your child cut it out or you can Glue the animal to the coffee filter and the craft is done!

Have your child cut out the faces of their family and glue onto the airplane. Where is your family going? https://www.colomio.com/vehicles/airplane
Traffic Light You will need 2 full pieces of paper ideally one neutral color and one black, some red, green and yellow paper to rip into pieces, glue, red, yellow and green crayons or markers and something to trace the circles with. Trace 3 circles on the neutral piece of paper, the top should be red, middle yellow and bottom green. Hand your child the colored paper to rip into small pieces. This isn’t just fun for them, it’s great practice for their fine motor skills! Start gluing your small pieces in the correct circles. Cut the extra paper off the sides of the traffic light, and glue on to a black piece of paper
I know a little poem that goes well with this activity: Red on top Green Below Red says stop Green says go Yellow says wait even if your late
Red Light Green Light Game ~ An Inside Version You may be familiar with Red Light Green Light as a running game outside, but this version can be played inside. Introduce the concept of red being stop, yellow being slow and green meaning go by acting it out. You don’t need to run; you can do any movement at all. I have done this as a circle time activity with clapping, hand waving and knee slapping! Have child suggest movements too! A Mother's Day Project

Stem Activity: Make Moon Craters The surface of the moon has dents on it. They’re called craters! They were made when space rocks, called meteorites, crashed into it.
Fill a tray with sand or flour. Don’t pack it down—the surface should be powdery, like the moon.
Gather some marbles and balls of different sizes and weights.
Drop them onto your moon surface.
Do different balls and marbles make different kinds of craters?
Does it make a difference if you drop the balls or marbles from different heights?
Try predicting the size of crater you’ll make before you drop a ball. Were you right?
Smashing Moon Rocks – Great fine motor activity While hitting the moon rocks with the hammer, they are practicing controlling their wrists and hands, while also making their muscles stronger! Fine motor skills are very important to work on during the preschool years because it helps prepare children to have better scissor skills and handwriting in the future. How to Make Moon Rocks Here is what you will need to make your own moon rocks! Materials Needed
Whisk together the 1 cup of flour with the 1 cup of water.
Add in a small drop of paint to change the mixture to a grey color.
Dip cotton balls into the mixture and place them onto a cookie sheet lined with foil.
Place into an oven at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes.
(Optional) Lay the completed moon rocks onto another cookie sheet lined with foil and with star stickers.
Show your child the tray full of moon rocks. Invite them to smash the rocks using the crab mallet or hammer. This is great for working on hand-eye coordination! The rocks will crunch and looked smashed when you hit them with the crab mallet. It’s so much fun! Another way to use the rocks is to crush them using hands. Invite your child to use their fingers to pull the cotton ball apart. I’m sure your child will think this is interesting and fun!

Make your own stargazer telescopes and pretend to be an astronomer. Use blue paint with a little silver glitter and paint a toilet paper roll. Then add sparkly star stickers.
STAR GAZING DOSCOVERY BOTTLES To make these Star Gazing Discovery Bottles you will need:
Remove the water and labels from the water bottle. Combine warm water with the black glitter glue in a large measuring cup. Stir well. Fill the bottle 3/4 full with the glue mixture. Add the a few sprinkles of star sequins to the bottle. For extra sparkle and texture, you can also add different weights of gold glitter. Close the bottle tightly, shake and observe.
If you want your mixture to move more, open and top the bottle off with more water. To make it move even faster, add a few drops of clear hand soap. To make it move slower, you can top it off with additional clear glue. Once you are happy with your mixture, seal the top closed permanently with super glue or if you have a hot glue gun.

Planet Sun Catchers Materials Coffee filters Markers Spray bottle filled with water Contact paper (optional) Prep Cut the eight planets out of coffee filters. I did this free-hand, and the planets are obviously not scaled correctly! I left Jupiter, the largest planet, as an intact coffee filter. Then I cut out the rest of the planets in descending order by size. I wanted to have them sized differently to help the kids see how the planets compare to each other. Starting with Mercury, have the kiddos color in the coffee filter planets with markers. Once the coffee filters are colored in, let the children spray water onto them. It’s best to thoroughly coat the marker drawings with water without totally drowning the coffee filters.
Mercury – gray and brown Venus – yellow and brown Earth – green and blue Mars – red and orange Jupiter – red, brown, orange, and yellow Saturn – brown and yellow Uranus – blue Neptune – blue and purple Please note that we didn’t include the dwarf planet Pluto.
Once all of the coffee filter planets are dry, put them up in the windows! They make pretty sun catchers!

1-2 plastic bins
water
dish soap
plastic farm animals
dirt
washcloths, brushes, old tooth brushes, sponges, etc
Before the animals can get clean, they need to get dirty! Set up a muddy area for the animals by mixing some of the dirt with water. We’ve found that by getting the dirt moist but not too wet worked best for repeat washing. Add the dish soap to the water to create bubbles and add the animals and cleaning supplies. Have a fun time!

Week 4
This week is Spring Break! Please join Ms. Toy as she reads "Good Night Yoga" and shows you how to do some yoga moves of your own.
Week 3
Monday 3/30 & Tuesday 3/31
Circle Time: We start our circle time by talking about what day of the week it is, the date and what month. I usually sound out the M for March and then do the action. We then count all the days starting with 1 and ending on what day it is. Days of the Week Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKqAblcwFOA The Pledge is next and from there we sit down and talk about what the weather is like.

Need to get some wiggles out: I’m an Easter Bunny! I’m an Easter Bunny, watch me hop. (Hop around) Here are my two ears, see how they flop. (Hold hands at sides of head and flop them) Here is my cotton tail, here is my nose, (wiggle hips, then point to nose) I’m all furry from my head to my toes. (point to head, then to toes) Repeat song a few times! Have fun!
Bunny in the Ground Fingerplay Here is a bunny with ears some funny (make bunny ears) And here is his hole in the ground (make a circle with fingers) When a noise he hears (put hand to ears) He picks up his ears, (hold bunny ears up straight) And he jumps in his hole in the ground (make a hole with one hand and stick finger in it)
Best Playdoh Recipe EVER: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1/3 cup salt 2 teaspoons cream of tartar 1 cup of water 1 Tablespoon oil
Combine flour, salt & cream of tartar. Add liquids and stir till smooth. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until a ball forms. Remove from heat and kneed. Store in zip lock bag. You can use food coloring or liquid water colors if you have them. You can add glitter for a little pizazz. *Make eater baskets and your kiddo roll balls (Easter eggs) If you have plastic Easter eggs, incorporate them into the fun as well.
Show children how to connect the eggs using playdough spheres (plastic eggs) Encourage them to build 3 dimensional structures. Measure how tall the structure is before deconstructing it! How tall can you make your tower?
Easter Egg Fine Motor Craft Prepare this easy Easter craft by cutting out egg shapes from card stock or regular colored paper. I used an egg-shaped cup from our Easter egg dying kits. But free-hand if you are able!
Provide a hole punch for your child to use. I used a standard hole punch, but if you have some fun shapes, let your child use those, too!
The activity is all about getting your child to strengthen their fine motor skills. Invite your child over and show him/her how to use the hole punch if they are not familiar with one.
Encourage your child to punch holes in the paper Easter eggs:
Punch one hole or many holes.
Punch holes around the edge of the Easter egg or closer to the middle.
Try to make designs in the Easter eggs or punch holes in random places.
Have fun punching holes!! Join in, too!! I found the activity kind-of a stress reliever! Haha!
Circle Time: It’s a new month! April!!! We start our circle time by talking about what day of the week it is, the date and what month. I usually sound out the A for April. For April let’s do a clap when we say the month. We then count all the days starting with 1 and ending on what day it is. How Many Jumps! Materials: masking or painter’s tape, measuring tape Rabbits aren’t the only animals that are great jumpers—kangaroos, frogs, and grasshoppers are too! Go to an open space (or move furniture out of the way) and make “animal jumping stations.” Have your child help you use masking tape to mark a starting point and the distance that each animal can jump. Measure 5 feet for a grasshopper, 6 feet for a frog, and 15 feet for a kangaroo. At each jumping station, have your child count how many jumps it takes to go the distance. Build math vocabulary as you talk about the activity. Your child will see that the longer the distance, the more jumps it takes. Easter Egg Decorating: You can use Pom poms and dip in paint, do-a-dot paints, finger painting, q-tips (dots and squiggly lines) and even wine corks work great for stamping. Be creative! Decorate a few eggs. Have the kids do an AB pattern. AB patterns may be line, squiggle, line, squiggle, line, squiggle…Egg template located below.
Easter Peeps Science Experiment This fun Easter Peeps science experiment uses a classic Easter candy to help children think scientifically about the effect of different liquids Placed one peep each into the bottom of three glasses. Fill each glass with a different liquid. Water, vinegar & clear soda Have your child make a prediction about what will happen to each of the peeps as they sit in the liquid. Write down their predictions so you can re-visit them once the experiment has concluded. In 2 days check back. Just by looking at it, the peeps may not have changed much. Remove the peeps from the liquids and place them on a tray to examine more closely. Take a fork and gently press on one peep at a time to see what will happen. If you wrote down predictions in the beginning of the experiment, don’t forget to revisit it and compare to see how accurate you were.

Spin like an eggWiggle your tail like a bunny Flap your wings like a chickHatch from an egg Hop like a bunnyPretend to hide eggs Paint an eggScratch the ground like a chick March in the Easter ParadeWobble like an egg
Tissue Paper Eggs: Have various colors of tissue paper available for children to use. Children can either tear paper or cut into square shapes. Have children cut out 2 egg shapes out of contact paper, using an egg template. And have them glue the tissue paper onto the eggs
Go outside or stay in: Pastel Chalk Materials needed: Colored sidewalk chalk, paper, water Dip chalk into water and draw on paper or on the ground outside. When drawing on paper, the texture is very smooth and the colors bold. The colors lighten as it dries.
Jelly Bean Color Matching Jelly Beans Construction paper Do-A-Dot Markers/Crayons or Markers Dot or make circles of the same colors of the jelly beans that you have all over the egg. You may want to space the colorful dots apart a little bit so that if any of the jelly beans roll, they do not end up rolling on to another color.
NOW IT’S TIME TO PLAY! Add more jelly beans than needed to fill the egg into a bowl. The object of the game is to match each jelly bean to the same color dot on When introducing the color matching activity, use a lot of non-examples. This means, asking things like, “Should I put the red jelly bean on the…purple dot?” Or, “I know, I’ll put the green jelly bean on the orange dot!” You’ll get an excited, “Noooo!” as a response for sure. This will help you make sure that your childunderstands how to play. After each dot on the egg is full, have your child count the jelly beans. She/he can count the total number, and then she/he can count each individual color too! And of course, you can subtract too “How many purple jelly beans will you have left if you eat one?” Have fun! Name Recognition and tracing. Please have them practice finding and tracing their name. *Remember if you need to take a breath Be a S.T.A.R. Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax

Centers: Book: The Dinosaur Who Lived In My Backyard by B.G.Hennessy read by Ms. Jenny
Dinosaur Fossils: Instructions
Combine salt, flour, and water in a small bowl or dish. Mix well until a soft dough forms. ...
When the dough forms, pinch off small fistfuls to shape into flattened rounds, similar to the shape and size of a cookie. ...
Repeat step 2 with each dinosaur. ...
Bake at 200 degrees until your fossil is dry.The amount of time needed to bake depends on size and thickness; thin flat fossils may only take 45-60 minutes, thicker fossils can take 2-3 hours or more
Bring on the science! During this activity, natural questions may come up. If they don’t, start a discussion using the questions below!
What are fossils?
How are fossils made?
Do you think there are any dinosaurs alive today? Why or why not?
Could some dinosaurs fly or swim?
Why do you think so many people are interested in dinosaurs?
Dinosaur Stomp Painting: Use your child’s toy dinosaurs as the paintbrushes for this activity. Set out some tempera paint. Have your child’s dinosaur stomp thru the paint and then stomp all over their paper. Such fun to make painted Dinosaur Tracks! If you don’t want to use paint. Grab some playdoh and have the dinosaurs stomp around in the playdoh.

Circle Time: We start our circle time by talking about what day of the week it is, the date and what month. I usually sound out the M for March and then do the action. We then count all the days starting with 1 and ending on what day it is.
Have a discussion about dinosaurs: The word DINOSAUR means terrible lizard. People never saw a real one--people were not alive when the dinosaurs were. Some were HERBEVOIRS--they ate only plants, they were vegetarians. Some were CARNIVOIRS--they ate meat. Some were large and some were small. They were hatched from eggs. There are real fossils in the world (see if you can find some online to print and show them). They are EXTINCT, nobody knows for sure why the all died. Etc
Get up and Move: Around the Prehistoric Swamp (sung to Wheels on the Bus) The pteranodon's wings went flap, flap, flap...flap, flap, flap...flap, flap, flap The pteranodon's wings went flap, flap, flap around the prehistoric swamp! The Tyrannosaurus Rex went grr, grr, grr.... The triceratops horns went poke, poke, poke The Apatosaurus ate leaves and went crunch, crunch, crunch.... The stegosaurus' tail went spike, spike, spike....
Centers: Book: How Do Dinosaurs Stay Safe? By Jane Yolen and Mark Teague https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBbO1tsU6eQ Counting Fun Materials needed: Use your child’s favorite dinos and paper with numbers on them. If your child is able to count out 5 items, then make the papers 6-10 or higher. The children should count out the number of dinos to match the number that is on the paper.
Make a Volcano: Volcanos are a natural extension of studying dinosaurs. This is a fun outdoor activity- grab an old water bottle from the recycling bin, find some mud (yes mud) and let them make their own volcanos. They can use twigs, tree branches and put some dinosaurs around the base. When the Volcano is ready, place some baking soda in the bottle (a funnel helps) remember the more you use the bigger the explosion. And then add some vinegar (a few red drops of food coloring for the lava) Stand back and watch the lava flow!

Stamp the bottom of the water bottle into the paint and have them stamp the paper. Use different colors of paint and talk about the color they’re using. Have them finger paint the stem and leaves. 2 step process. Mud Finger-paint: Mix dirt and water in a big bowl to make mud. Put the mud on a table and let the children finger-paint with it. If desired, add glue to the mixture and have the children make handprints on a large piece of parchment paper.
Eat Plant Parts Materials: household fruits and vegetables Tell your child that people eat plants! Eating plants helps us stay healthy. Together search your kitchen for edible plants. Look for different parts of plants, for example: carrots or onions for roots; broccoli tops for flowers; lettuce for leaves; beans or peas for seeds; celery for stems; and bananas for fruit. Then pick out some plant parts to share as a snack! Alike and Different: Go on a nature walk. Find two different kinds of dirt and put them in separate jars. Ask your child to compare the two kinds of dirt. How are they alike? How are they different? Which dirt would be best for growing plants? Why? And then if you have some seeds trying growing them and see what happens. Record your findings.
